Oh this comic is oh so true, except I have no idea if that conversation actually happened between my friends. I like to assume, however, that the lack of my presence would be both noticed and commented on amongst my friends, so let’s take it as truth for now. Regardless, the part about my fixation with daily helpings of Resistance 2 is gospel. I have managed to take a day off here and there from the grind of leveling up my Medic in Co-op mode (not Coop mode, thank you Burch), but whenever I do I feel like I haven’t been productive for the day. Isn’t that crazy? Working for money, along with social activity with physical friends I know, cause me to feel NON-productive when not healing strangers with my health gun in a fictitious online alien war. That’s the sign of a good game right there.

I do want to be social, however it’s becoming more and more of an expensive proposition. I checked my account a couple weeks back and wondered when I had purchased land in Dubai, for that was the only reason I could think of for so much money to be missing. Turns out it was mostly spent on bars and restaurants, which means I have nothing to show for it except leftovers and hangovers. This will not do! I have food at home, I have booze at home, why am I spending all this money going out to get both at much more extravagent prices? The answer, quite simply, was “because I’m dumb.” So I’ve been cutting back on that, and luckily I have 48 different hobbies to amuse myself with at home so I don’t lose my mind while others go out and have good times.

However, I do need to be the occasional social butterfly, I’m not a hermit (anymore). So I propose the following solution: all of you go out and buy a PS3 and Resistance 2. Then we can start a clan together, and I can have the best of both worlds! Playing my current favorite game, whilst being social with my favorite friends! Don’t you see how this arrangement would be perfect for me? Stop being selfish, it’s Christmas Time!

What, are you still here? That’s all I have to say. It’s at the Ohio Theatre; go figure out a way to get tickets for this, you’re wasting time!!!

This is the last political comic, I PROMISE until the next one. I am already tired of some (not ALL) Republicans being sore losers and accusing people who voted for Obama of being naive and hopelessly wishful thinkers, believing Barack will ride in on his white horse and wave his magic wand and make everything back to better. Perhaps a few of those people exist, but I am not one of them, and most of us would surely take offense to that notion. This country is FUBAR, and no matter how good a President he turns out to be Obama probably couldn’t fix it in one term, or possibly two.

But even lifelong conservative Republicans jumped ship to the Obama fleet once they realized that the status quo was not working, and that McCain was only interested in winning an election, not picking a VP that might fill in the holes in his experience as Obama did. I mean, Palin? Really? Not even Republicans could handle that amount of blatant pandering to housewives (even though it almost worked; my entire office of old ladies LOVE Palin and thought she was more than qualified…jeez.)

But back to my original point: hope does not equal magic. We Obama supporters don’t think he will solve America’s problems by himself, but we believe, we hope, that he will help get us on the right track. We hope his inexperience means he’s had no time to establish “good-ol’-boys” or special interest agendas. We hope his health care plan means less people have to live in fear of getting sick, knowing they don’t have the insurance to pay for it. We hope his tax plan really will help the lower and middle classes have a more liveable wage, at very little expense to the immensely wealthy few who can honestly afford it without so much as blinking. We hope his progressiveness gets us out of the rut of an unjust war, off the leash of foreign oil, out of the quagmire that is our economy. We hope, not despite the fact he’s so different and inexperienced and untested, but because of it.

Because where has experience and “staying the course” gotten us? Right where we are now: on the rain-slick precipice of darkness. And there’s nothing wrong with a little hope to help us see the light.

Ok, kiddies, enough soapboxing. After this, I’m back to the funny.

Anyone else tired of politics? It can’t just be me. There’s another debate on tonight. Do you think I plan on watching it? No. I’d rather wear a barf coat. I know this is a very important election; trillions of dollars, millions of lives, and countless hearts and minds are at stake for the next 4 years, I know this.

I just need a freakin’ week off here, people. Tonight, I watch my dvr’d Kitchen Nightmares instead.

Holy crap, my alma mater made national (online blog site) news! Granted, it’s for a crappy reason, but hey…the school I attended was mentioned! WOOOOO! Looks like NKU is running with the big dogs now, charging exorbitant amounts for things like the BIG universities do. But at least the Game Room is something optional, and if students are stupid enough to pay for it, well, that’s just their own damn fault. It’s not like they’re raping you for parking passes (which they do), which is a mandatory expense and seems to increase an order of magnitude every year. Learn the bus schedule, freshmen!

Just try to read something into it, you can’t! Try to figure out the subtext, decipher the metaphor, crack the code, toad the wet sprocket, you will fail! Does it mean anything? Why, yes, it does. Do you even care?! You’ll tell yourself you don’t, and promptly forget about it…but your subconscious won’t. And tonight, or a week from now, or next month, you’ll have a disturbing dream about dogs and ninjas and blood…oh God, the blood…and you’ll have no idea where it came from, but you’ll be rocked to your very foundation…and I will have won. Why would I want this for you? Why would I wish this upon people I claim to count as friends? Simple, mon ami:

The cost for learning the truth could very well be your sanity, your soul, your entire being! I could also be persuaded with a frosty malted beverage. YOU DECIDE!!!

I GOTS FOOTBALL FEVAH!!!! I know this is a little late, seeing as how we’re into the 3rd week of the NFL season, but I’ve been much too busy drafting rosters and researching sleeper stars to update you on my fantasy goings-on. I am currently in 3 separate fantasy leagues: the first is the serious, $25-a-head league that could win me some serious scratch if TJ Hooshmenzada can get his frakkin act together (I’ll spell his name right when he catches a bloody touchdown pass.) Right now I am in 1st place in this league, and I am enjoying it as much as I can, because it will never happen again. Tony Romo and Marion Barber almost single-handedly (single-teamedly?) make up my entire squad’s points, with Plaxico Burress and my kicker picking up the slack. And, of course, Jonathan Stewart (not that one), the rookie who will make me look like a genius if he pans out. So far, so good! Oh, and Donte Stallworth, for the second year in a row, can suck a fat one.

The second is a just-for-fun league for no money, but I drafted all my players live. Unfortunately, the online draft was botched by the application so only 3 out of 9 people were there for the live draft, the rest were auto-drafted. FTMFW. Clearly, the computer knows more than I, for I am in 5th place right now. My Devery Henderson gamble did not pay dividends…yet. Winner of this league gets candy. The losers…will be killed.

The third is a league I started only because Virginia didn’t bother to accept my invitation to the first just-for-fun league, and she really wanted to play. It’s called the Freakin’ ‘Tarded Kids’ League. There’s a funny story behind why, but the gist is Virginia thinks Burch is retarded and said so to his face. Hilarious! In this league EVERYONE auto-drafted, and I am sitting comfortably in 2nd place. I’d feel bad about my own abilities to draft except I’m in 1st place where it counts, for money, so for right now I can take it all in stride. In a couple weeks, however, when I’ve plummeted to the bottom of the food chain, I’ll be back here sobbing, with no doubt a vast variety of reasons for my downfall. Winner of this league gets a reflective helmet, and the title of King of the ‘Tards!

So anyway, that’s how deep I am into fantasy football at this point. I can’t imagine being in more than one pay league, though, I’d be in cold sweats every Sunday afternoon. “OMG Romo threw another pick! There goes my rent!” This is much better than last year, when the only league I was in was auto-drafted and I felt like I had no control. At least if I lose this year, I’ll have felt like I DID something.

In unrelated news, college football is also being played. Someone give me a reason to care.
