“Everyday Conversations” with Greg and Phil: #1

January 14th, 2008 by Greg

12:51 PM Phil: here, maybe you didn’t see this story, then: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7180379.stm
not related to videogames at all!

.
12:52 PM Greg: …
12:53 PM well i have two takes on this
  one: i weep for humanity
two: he’s a drug dealer, so screw him

.
Phil: I agree with both your views
also, three: why didn’t someone try this before?

.
Greg: because you’d think in America a judge would say, “uh, you sought out a drug dealer, bought drugs voluntarily with your own (or stolen) money, took the drugs, OD’d, then try to say the guy that gave them to you tricked you into it?”
12:55 PM “that’s like saying Best Buy tricked me into a refrigerator because i went there to buy one. next case!”

.
Phil: well, not necessarily in America, then.
I am surprised this worked in Canada, though; they’re generally a bit more, um
  sensible
but I guess nutcases get elected to judges’ benches in every country

.
12:56 PM Greg: or maybe the judge just said “screw you, you’re a drug dealer”, and i have no problem with that stance

.
 Phil: that’s very possible
he may have seen the opportunity to screw a drug dealer out of his ill-gotten gains
  I cannot argue so far

.
12:57 PM Greg: oh man
if that precedent got set in America you’d see the end of drug dealing
how would you sell it knowing you could be sued by anyone?

.
 Phil: anyone, at any time?
drug dealers everywhere would scramble for a non-addictive drug

.
Greg: you’d have to make yourself completely anonymous, which is quite hard to do in 2008
12:58 PM haha
  or lawyers
12:59 PM you’d have to sign a non-disclosure agreement with your dime bag

.
 Phil: hahahahaha
contracts restricting you to binding arbitration
every dime sack now comes with an End-User License Agreement saying you can’t sue your connect
  I love it

.
1:00 PM Greg: oh we gotta put this on the site :)
