Forwards from Phil: Jan. 11, 2008

January 11th, 2008 by Phil

Oh hey, it’s the 11th. I get paid in four days! But more importantly, it’s the weekend. That’s always good news. And so, without further ado, here’s the info you absolutely need to know as you head into the weekend…

Nah, I’m just playin’ with you. None of this is essential. But most of it’s fun.

- I don’t have a link for this, but Will assures me American Gladiators has been greenlighted for at least a full season. Hooray!

- Running out of space for your oversize book collection? Got a house with exposed rafters? Make bookshelves out of your rafters! This is actually a pretty cool idea, and it makes me wish my apartment had, well, rafters. Instead I have a crappy brown stain in the ceiling from a leak that opened then promptly closed, as well as the slit in the ceiling from the leak itself. Delightful.

- Did you know you could once buy a website from an actual, physical store? God bless the dot-com bubble.

websites!

Looks like they’ll also sell stuff on eBay for you. I can hardly believe that’s a business model, much less one that apparently still thrives.

- Pave your garden walk with bricks shaped like the original Game Boy. Then, invite me over so I can rob you blind admire how much cash you clearly have if you can afford to do this.

- Apparently, against all odds, Captain Olimar actually looks kind of fun to play with. The fact that his attacks get different properties based on the Pikmin is a plus, but I can’t see anyone using the order-shifting one too often - unless it’s to get one of the poison ones to the front.

- Breaking news: Assassin’s Creed for the DS actually exists, is not merely a typo. No word on if it’ll include wildly table-humping NPCs.

- Talim is, in fact, returning for Soulcalibur IV. No word yet on if her breasts will balloon up to mammoth size like, oh, I dunno, everyone who’s not a Star Wars cameo, or Voldo. And even Voldo got an ass-spike. How does he sit in that thing? He’s got to have enormous furniture costs.

- A review of the year for those of you who might be thinking of joining World of Warcraft, but don’t want to pour 8 hours a night into it. It’s a game, not a second full-time job. I can testify that you CAN enjoy the game quite a lot on a couple hours here and there. More if you like, less if you want to.

- Against all odds, Sony-BMG will be selling music without DRM. What? I’m sorry, did I wake up in an alternate universe where Sony doesn’t hate the consumer? Awesome.

- Lastly, what the hell is up with people this week? First a man allegedly throws his four toddlers off a bridge, now a woman’s being charged with killing her four kids. Reason? They were possessed by demons, according to her.

- LAST MINUTE UPDATE: support an evil conglomerate, buy Smash Bros. Brawl for $19.82. With prices like that, maybe you can ignore everything that’s wrong with Wal-Mart. (via the aptly named “Louisville Josh”)
