Top 5 Games That Need Sequels
November 16th, 2007 by GregAnother Top 5 video game article, this time it’s the Top 5 Video Games That Need Sequels. The list they have is pretty garbage, (except for Portal, which was brilliant and truly needs a sequel yesterday), but got me thinking about my own Top 5 games that need sequels. So here, in no particular order, is my own wish list:
1) Beyond Good & Evil–If you’ve never played this game, and you love fun action/adventure games with awesome writing, characters you care about and actually FUNNY dialogue, find this critically adored game and play it. Every video game magazine in the world still sings its praises, and I add my voice to the throng: MAKE A SEQUEL, EVEN IF THE FIRST GAME MADE ABOUT $400 RETAIL. It ended on a hell of a cliffhanger that I still remember to this day, and the save file will be on my memory card forever until this sequel happens, or the Earth explodes, whichever comes first.
2) Bioshock–I really only have a couple ideas as to how they could even pull off a sequel, storywise, given the nature of the ending…but I don’t care! Change all the characters and story and setting if you want, I just want the same gameplay to go through all over again, only with new things to discover and play with. This game is way too good to let languish, and I’m sure they are smart enough not to let it happen. It’s only been out a couple months so really I shouldn’t even put it on this list, but I do because it is testiment to how great the game is; I need a sequel NOW!!!
3) Dark Cloud 2–I just really love this game so much that I want another one, immediately. And it’s not like I haven’t been patient, it’s been like 5 years since the last one had me taking pictures of everything in sight so I could forge new weapons and ammo and items (Moon + Mailbox = Magic Hammer…huh?) But NOOOOO, Level 5 continues to make its fans wait and wait, doing new IP left and right. Give me my Dark Cloud 3! And this time, make one of the playable characters a llama that says: Blah. You’d get that joke if you played the game.
4)Kingdom Hearts 2–There are currently 3 different Kingdom Hearts games in development, and NONE of them are a proper sequel to Kingdom Hearts 2! How does that happen? Why do Square Enix and Disney hate me? Did I insult their mothers at the Christmas party last year? Seriously, NEED INPUT! This is another game taking up space on my memory card, just in case the file gets me a cool special Keyblade on KH3. What can I say? I’m thorough.
5)Indigo Prophecy–They definitely need to make a sequel for this soon, because even though I loved the game I couldn’t for the life of me remember the title; I had to go down the entire list of PS2 games until the lightbulb clicked on, and it worked! This was a very unconventional game that was played mostly through quick time events and dialogue trees, and a lot of times you didn’t have direct control of the characters, but it was the mystery/thriller plot that made it great, and it was RIPE for a sequel…literally, it was engorged with sweet juice to the point of bursting. Squeeze out that juice, game makers, and give me my Indigo Prophecy 2 smoothie!
I focused on story-based games for this list, but there are plenty of other types of games I would love to have more of: Power Stone, Marvel vs. Capcom, Mario Golf, A 3-D Sonic Game That Doesn’t Suck, just to name a few. I’m sure I’m leaving some good ones out; jog my memory if you think of any.
