Which shall prove to rock me harder?

July 26th, 2007 by Greg

I don’t know guys…as it stands right now, I am more impressed with Guitar Hero 3’s lineup of songs than with Rock Band’s…I know there’s more interactivity and choices with Rock Band, but I don’t really care about anything other than the 90s songs as it stands now, and the songs are going to be crucial for me.  Here are the tracks listed for each so far; which looks better to you?

Guitar Hero 3:

  • Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames (Master)
  • Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast (Master)
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss (Master)
  • ZZ Top - La Grange
  • Alice Cooper - School’s Out
  • Beastie Boys - Sabotage (Master)
  • Foghat - Slowride
  • Guns N’ Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (Master)
  • Heart - Barracuda
  • Kiss - Rock N Roll All Nite
  • Living Colour - Cult of Personality (Master)
  • Muse - Knights of Cydonia (Master)
  • Pearl Jam - Evenflow (Master)
  • Priestess - Lay Down (Master)
  • Rolling Stones - Paint it, Black (Master)
  • Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock (Master)
  • Tenacious D - The Metal (Master)
  • The Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
  • Weezer - My Name is Jonas (Master)

Rock Band (astericks denote a cover, not master):

1970s
  • The Who - “Won’t Get Fooled Again”
  • Mountain - “Mississippi Queen”*
  • David Bowie - “Suffragette City”
  • Black Sabbath - “Paranoid”*
  • Blue Oyster Cult - “Don’t Fear the Reaper”
  • The Ramones - “Rockaway Beach”
1980s
  • Rush - “Tom Sawyer”*
  • Bon Jovi - “Wanted Dead or Alive”
1990s
  • Nirvana - “In Bloom”
  • Stone Temple Pilots - “Vasoline”
  • Weezer - “Say It Ain’t So”
  • Foo Fighters - “Learn to Fly”
  • Metallica - “Enter Sandman”
2000s
  • The Hives - “Main Offender”
  • The Strokes - “Reptilia”
  • Queens of the Stone Age - “Go With the Flow”

On second thought…after reading this article about Rock Band allowing you to download entire albums to play, I am now once again more excited about this than GH3.  But, we shall see what albums/songs actually end up being available.  Then the true test will be revealed, and I shall choose my rock of choice.

Eh…either way I’m buying a guitar and microphone.

Blasphemy! Wow, we are two completely different wavelengths. I’m gonna buy GH3 without a doubt. However, the lineup for Rock Band has FAR more opportunities for me to get my rock-fix. Ignoring the nice lineup of classic rock (I can’t wait for the chance ot play “Baba O’Riley”) I have to say the 90s and 00s lineup is enough to make me salivate. How could you NOT want to play “Reptilia” or “Go With the Flow?”

You’d have to lack a soul.

“Wanted Dead or Alive?” Are you kidding me? I can already see tons of karaoke nights in my living room coming up.

Hell, I may start selling tickets to mini-concerts. Eat that GH3!

I mean, I still have it on pre-order. But, I digress.

I can honestly say i am one of those people who have tried many times to play Guitar hero and actually can’t play even on easy ( I think it is because i have stubby little fingers and have small child like hands). So my dreams of being a rock star in video game land can possibly come true with the Rock Band game. Not to mention i have been playing Karaoke Revolution Party and The American Idol version to psyche myself up for Rock Band…even though i know there are much more possibilities in playing Rock Band then just singing. But i am not coordinated enough to even slightly have a chance at the other stuff i can at least act like i am a good singer though.

…there wouldn’t happen to be an electronic cello in there as a choice, would there?

I believe they are saving that for the inevitable sequel “Rock Band 2: Full Orchestra Edition.” I’ll be getting the trombone and the triangle.
